Eats and Art
Two of my favorite things!
I was away from Lanark all summer, but Facebook helped me keep up with the news. That’s how I found out about Salty Shenanigans, the new farm store in Carrabelle.
I couldn’t wait to try it. I mean, just look at all these pictures of freshly baked bread, hummus, tomato pies, and quiche. It makes your mouth water, doesn’t it? It did mine. So naturally, this was one of my first shopping stops when I got back to Florida.
If you haven’t located Salty Shenanigans yet, it’s in that big blue house across the street from Sands Park. I was surprised to find out the store’s owner was none other than Hope, a Lanark Village resident and the DJ who sometimes spins tunes for the LVA’s dance parties. She’s obviously a woman of many talents including farming and baking. The congenial smile you see in her picture below is the same one that greets Salty Shenanigan’s customers as they walk through the door.
Something in the window next door caught our eye as we were leaving Salty Shenanigans with our bag full of goodies, and we decided to check out the neighboring shop, Artist Cove. It carries work from various local artists and hosts creative workshops in a cozy classroom.
Eva, the proprietor, told us that these two businesses participate in Carrabelle’s monthly First Fridays, staying open late and serving homemade treats and wine. Artists and art lovers are also welcome to hang out on the porch every Thursday to enjoy conversation and complimentary coffee.
Both spaces are attractive and inviting. Lanarkians who are looking for a little something to warm up their Village life should swing by and take a look.
