The Lanark Village Association (LVA) was established in 1956 to give the Lanark Retirement Village residents a say in their governance. That role expanded in 1965 when the community’s developer went bankrupt and the Association stepped up to fill the management void.

Believing that having a place to gather together would help nurture the residents’ social bonds, the LVA purchased an empty lot for a community center and sold bonds to finance its construction. Once completed, they named the clubhouse Chillas Hall after the then-president of the LVA, Henry Chillas. Today, the volunteer-run Lanark Village Association Board continues to operate Chillas Hall, which has become the heart of the neighborhood’s social life.

In addition to the day-to-day maintenance and operation of Chillas Hall and the adjoining post office, the LVA rents spaces for boat and RV storage and plans numerous community events. These gatherings include the weekly activities such as a potluck known as Thirsty Thursday, Bingo and game night. There are also holiday celebrations and an annual Chili Cookoff. And don’t forget Coffee is served Monday through Friday. You can find more information about regular events here. The Lanark residents are an active, fun-loving crowd, and the LVA works hard to meet their needs for a reliable and enjoyable social network.
