Villagers are Fashionable

Friends from the Village gathered on a sunny afternoon this spring to applaud the creative genius of Lanark resident Joan Matey. Joan designs costumes and assembles them from maritime materials including shells, sponges, oyster sacks, and beach umbrellas.

Locals delight in seeing Joan’s familiar characters, such as Clamity Jane, Red Tide She-Devil, the Legionnaire de Mer, and others, at area festivals, and the Fishy Fashion Show has been a favorite since 2006.
